Using Natural Materials for your Christmas Containers

Christmas Container Recipe

'Tis the season to be jolly and to decorate our front porch for the holidays!  Using natural greenery and materials from your garden can enhance the aesthetic of your front porch.  Search your yard for evergreen cuttings and small upright evergreen shrubs like spruce, cypress, pine, and cedar boughs. You can also purchase greens at a local nursery. Take your kids on a scavenger hunt for berries, pine cones, small logs, and even feathers to add decoration.

Containers that are upright or traditional work the best to add height.  Think about reusing your flower containers that you already own, or choose some of my favorite containers.  I use potting soil to supply moisture to the cut greens to make them last.  I sometimes reuse the old potting soil, which is another way to save a few dollars.

I have included a free container recipe that you can download for simple instructions and a material list. Just click on the link below or on the title above. It will provide you with materials and instructions on how to assemble the containers. When choosing styles and color combinations, take clues from the house style and color, or go traditional!

Finally, add lights in the form of lanterns or lighted globes.  Enjoy the season using natural materials!

Happy Holidays!
